Nice ride today. Went for a 30 mile on the road bike. Been making a few tweaks to prevent bum ache, so was a good test. Well pleased I have sorted that out as no pain today. No techy solution, just a £5 cover on my expensive saddle ffs. Much better than faffing with saddle height, pitch angle and reach!
I have been loading my wrists too much (seat pitch negative by quite a lot, so moved it up a bit and the saddle back a bit and lower also. Took my tool kit to make the adjustments on the fly if it didn't work out.
Blitz the first 5 miles in a PB 20 mins Sproughton to Claydon, before my worst slope. Traffic was heavy after my feed station on the old Norwich road and was 2 mins up on the 30 mile PB already, so the adjustments were fine. Round to Henley and hitting the bypass picked up 2 dropheads so latched on to them for 3/4 miles and so was flying on levels bits 17/18 mph. Completed 5 good speed sessions whilst maintaining reasonable speed on the "rest" faze. Only did 3 out of saddle sessions as bum was fine!
I had to slow at every round about so traffic has def increased which is a pain. 10 mile PB went (43 mins) but HR was now 140 which is 20 above my cruising rate, so slowed down a bit for the stretch to Purdis golf course. Yet again the stretch to Trimley was headed wind. The open ground seems to funnel the wind in my face every time! Nevertheless PB the 20 mile marker 86 mins. Tanked up again after leaving Trimley with the rest of my energy bar and started second water bottle - as learnt dont mess with dehydration. With the breeze behind I was hoping to crack my 30 mile PB of 2hrs 18 mins but alas with traffic on Colchester road I lost interest and took it easy all the way home via Claydon and Bramford. Nice weather all the way and only had to adjust seat height (too high due to seat cover).
Thankfully the bike is riding great with no faults. Burnt 3214 calories and took 2 hrs 32 mins - 33.74 miles - way off my normal pace for 30 miles averaging 13.3 mph. Max HR was 154 and spent 52% of the ride in my performance or cardio zones so well chuffed. Wind for foiling Thursday so rest day Wednesday. Feeling well fit at the mo!
